PRESS RELEASE
Mr Syvil Lloyd Morris Joins the Management Committee of the Association of Qualified Legal Representatives (AQLR)
The Association of Qualified Legal Representatives (AQLR) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Syvil Lloyd Morris, Solicitor Advocate and Director of Family Law at Bastian Lloyd Morris Solicitors, to its Management Committee.
Mr Lloyd Morris brings to the AQLR more than three decades of distinguished legal, academic, and community-centred service. A former police officer and British Army serviceman, and now a leading specialist in international family law, childcare proceedings, and child abduction, he adds a rare combination of frontline experience, legal expertise, and public-protection insight.
Since qualifying in 1991, Syvil has appeared as an advocate at all levels — including the Court of Appeal — and is a long-standing member of the Law Society’s Children Panel and Resolution. His extensive specialist knowledge will directly strengthen the AQLR’s mission to provide fair, skilled, trauma-informed representation to vulnerable parties across family justice proceedings.
For over two decades, he has trained professionals on domestic violence law and practice, contributed to the establishment of Specialist Domestic Violence Courts, and written widely on the subject. His academic work — supported by degrees including an LLM, MSc in Criminology, and an MA focusing on sexual abuse and domestic violence — positions him as one of the UK’s leading practitioner-academics in this field.
Added Value to the AQLR
Mr Lloyd Morris will offer significant strategic and operational value to the Association, including:
1. Expertise in Domestic Abuse and Safeguarding
His decades of specialist training and policy work will support the AQLR in strengthening national standards of trauma-aware representation.
2. Advocacy Excellence Across Court Levels
His experience appearing at all levels of court — including appellate work — enhances the Association’s capacity to develop robust advocacy standards for QLRs operating in complex and high-risk cases.
3. Specialist Knowledge of Child Protection and International Family Law
Given the increasing overlap between domestic cases and international jurisdictions, his expertise will influence future guidance and training for QLRs.
4. Academic and Research Leadership
As an Honorary Senior Fellow in Professional Practice at the University of Buckingham, he will bring academic rigour to the development of AQLR policy, training programmes, and evidence-based practice.
5. Commitment to Community-Centred Legal Practice
His ethos — treating law as a service to the community — aligns closely with the AQLR’s values and strengthens its public-facing mission.
AQLR Committee Update
Mr Lloyd Morris joins the Committee following the departure of Elizabeth Bowden, whom we are delighted to congratulate on her appointment as a Fee-paid Judge of the First-tier Tribunal.
This is a remarkable and thoroughly well-deserved achievement, reflecting her skill, dedication, and longstanding service to family justice.
On behalf of the AQLR Management Committee, we wish Judge Bowden every success in her new judicial role, and we very much hope to remain in contact as the work and impact of the AQLR continues to develop.
