Who We Are

The Association of Qualified Legal Representatives (AQLR) is an independent membership organisation bringing together legal practitioners who undertake, or have an interest in, Qualified Legal Representative (QLR) work in family and civil proceedings.

We provide a supportive network for members, encouraging collaboration, professional development and the sharing of knowledge, experience and good practice in this important area of advocacy.

Our Purpose

The role of a QLR is important in ensuring fairness in proceedings where a party is prohibited from personally cross-examining a witness.

AQLR aims to support its members and contribute positively to QLR practice by:

Facilitating networking, collaboration and peer support.

Sharing practical guidance, case law and developments relevant to QLR work.

Encouraging access to training and continuing professional development.

Promoting the exchange of knowledge, experience and good practice.

Providing a collective voice for members on matters affecting QLR work.

Engaging constructively with the judiciary, HMCTS and other relevant organisations.

Our Status and Role

AQLR is not a regulator, licensing authority or disciplinary body, and membership does not constitute regulatory accreditation or endorsement. Members remain subject to the professional obligations of their own regulators.

AQLR does not determine eligibility to undertake QLR work or appoint practitioners on behalf of the courts. Those matters remain governed by the applicable statutory arrangements and professional requirements.

Our role is to support our members, encourage collaboration and contribute to the sharing of knowledge and experience within the QLR community.

Join Our Community

AQLR welcomes legal practitioners who undertake QLR work or have an interest in this area of practice.

Membership provides opportunities to connect with others, share experiences, access useful resources and contribute to a supportive community.
